Hello Beer Fans!
We have some amazing beers to tap today from Firestone for this weekend. Next week we are hosting a combo Alpine/Rip Current/Nickel Beer night in honor of the American Homebrewers Conference being in town and we’ll have a Ritual Beer Week coming up after our next beer dinner. Great beer and we have a ton of big sporting events coming too. Here are all of the tasty details….
We are tapping 5 beers from Firestone today including what might be our last keg of the Double Double Barrel Ale (which is from 2013). This double version of the company’s Double Barrel Ale will still be produced to blend into the anniversary ale released each year but it will no longer be regularly distributed in kegs and bottles. So help us say farewell to this incredible strong ale this weekend by enjoying a glass.
In addition to the DDBA, we have a 2013 Sucaba Barleywine, Nectar Black Xantus Imperial Stout and pub favorites Pivo Pils, Easy Jack, Double Jack and Union Jack IPA. This is going to be a great line up of hoppy and vintage strong ales from Firestone. And if you see my dad around the pub tonight, wish him a happy birthday – he will be there to enjoy the DDBA before it is all gone.
Today the kitchen will be cranking out some amazing food specials including the Nickel BLT, Beer Chili, Chili Tater Tots, Roast Beef Torta, Uncle Bob’s Torta and Chicken Torta. Next week look for Pulled Pork specials featuring slow smoked meat from West Coast Barbecue and Brew in La Mesa (http://westcoastbbqandbrew.com/).
Next week we will be hosting beers from Alpine, Rip Current and Nickel Beer on Wednesday the 10th. We have not fully confirmed the line up from Rip Current, but I know it will involve Lupulin Lust IPA. We will have just about every hoppy beer under 9% that Alpine makes including San Diego Surprise, Duet, Nelson, Hoppy Birthday, Pure Hoppiness and the new Skinny Daddy IPA brewed for the Toronado’s 7th Anniversary with former Pizza Port brewer Devon Randall. Look for taco specials from the kitchen.
From Nickel Beer we will have nitro Stonewall Stout, nitro Habanero IPA 342, Weekender Wheat, Hopster Douchebag Double IPA and Dog Year IPA, also brewed for the Toro’s 7th anniversary. Look for all of the beers to be on tap by 4 pm with all of the hoppy beers coming in full kegs so that they will last all night (hopefully). Next week we will have a cask of the Nickel Dog Year IPA with Mosaic hops on Thursday the 11th at 5 pm. And by popular demand we will have Pulled Pork Tater Tots on special.
Starting Monday the 15th we will have Ritual Brewing Company beers on tap all week. The beer dinner on the 14th is completely sold out. Our next Sunday night dinner will be July 12th with Lagunitas Brewing. We will have a sign up sheet out on Monday the 15th for the Lagunitas dinner and we expect this one to sell out even faster than usual.
NBA, UCL Final, Women’s World Cup and More Sports
A week filled with sports starts today at lunch as the US Men’s Soccer team plays The Netherlands at 11:30 am. Saturday the 6th we will be opening up early at 11 am for the UEFA Champions League Final between Juventus and Barcelona. The game will kick off at 11:45 am but we’ll be pouring beer and serving up food starting at 11 am. The Women’s World Cup kicks off on Saturday as well with games at 3 pm (Canada v. China) and 6 pm (New Zealand v. The Netherlands).
Sunday the 7th we get game 2 of the NBA Finals and we will be staying open late for the game with the kitchen open until 5:30 pm. Golden State won the first game in overtime and we’ll see if their impressive home record continues. Game 3 is on Tuesday the 9th at 6 pm as the series moves to Cleveland. Game 4 will be on Thursday the 11th also at 6 pm. Assuming it goes to game 5, we’ll keep the patio open on the 14th to show the game as we have a beer dinner inside that night.
The US Women’s Soccer team begins its World Cup journey on Monday the 8th at 4:30 pm against Australia. As a special bonus, we will start our Pitcher Night at 4 pm with pitchers starting at just $10 now from 4 pm to Close for the USA game. Game 2 for the Lady Yanks will be Friday the 12th at 5 pm against Sweden and the team will finish group stage play on Tuesday the 16th against Nigeria at 5 pm. I love the hashtag that team is using – #we want three stars (each star represents a World Cup victory and the US won it in 1991 and more famously in 1999). Expect lively crowds for all of the USA’s matches in the Women’s World Cup.
As if all of that wasn’t enough, the US Men take on Germany at 11:45 am on Wednesday the 10th – look for some of the Alpine-Rip Current- Nickel beers to be on tap for the game. Then the Copa America begins on Thursday the 11th which is the South American Championship. Argentina plays Paraguay on Saturday 6/13 at 2:30 and Brazil plays Peru at 2:30 on Sunday the 14th.
Be the Brewer
This Sunday I am making a collaboration beer at Nickel Beer in Julian to help raise money for the Anza Borrego Foundation. I will be brewing a Vanilla Oatmeal Stout on Sunday the 7th and you can be in the brewhouse with me to make the beer. The Anza Borrego Foundation will be doing a VIP Tapping Party for the beer release on Saturday, June 27th as well.
The brew day this Sunday will start at 9 am and end by 2 pm. Lunch will be included and you will get a ticket to the VIP Tapping Party and a growler of the beer to take home. During the brew day you will be able to learn about the entire brew process and help make the beer. For more information and to sign up to help support the ABF, please visit: http://theabf.org/events and click on the Brew Day Fundraiser up top. This link will also take you to the sign up for the VIP Tapping Party and other ABF events including the Hikes and Hops with the Volcan Mountain Foundation in July.
The 9th San Diego International Beer Festival will take place during the San Diego County Fair on June 19th, 20th and 21st. The fest will feature more than 350 beers from dozens of states and more than 10 countries. It will consist of five 4 hour sessions with unlimited sampling during each session. There are VIP tickets available that include access to the VIP lounge with special beer and food pairings. For complete times and ticket info, please visit: http://sandiegobeerfestival.com/
Tyson and I will both be working at the fest that weekend. And I will have 3 beers on tap from Nickel at the fest – Jalapeno Back Country Gold, Stonewall Stout and Volcan IPA.
That is your good beer news for now. We’ll see you this weekend for a great Firestone brew. GO USA! Cheers, Tom
