Hello Beer Fans!
We have a ton of great beer tap between now and the end of the month. It starts Thursday night with a Bells Brewing night featuring a cask of Two Hearted IPA at 5 pm. We’ll have several draft kegs on tap including Double Cream Special Stout, Octoberfest, Titania (wheat IPA) and Two Hearted IPA. Tyson and I are both very excited about the cask and we will both be at the pub to enjoy one or four. Look for the Bells draft beers on tap throughout the weekend.
Sunday night is our Burning Beard and Nickel Beer Dinner with a focus on wet hop beers. We’ll be serving up 3 wet hop beers from Nickel, Circle of Wet Hops from Burning Beard and the new Room 101 collaboration between Nickel, Burning Beard and Star B Hop Ranch. The beer is based on a Kolsch-style recipe and was brewed with Neo Mexicanus hops from Star B. The name is a reference to the original Matrix movie. Jeff from Burning Beard wrote a really funny blog on the collaboration and how it came about. Check it out at: http://burningbeardbrewing.com/index.php/2017/09/05/room-101-wet-hops-and-role-playing/. There are just a few seats left for the dinner as I write this. Dinner will start at 6:30 pm on Sunday the 24th. Cost is $60 and you can sign up at the pub (cash only please). Look for the beers from the dinner to be on tap for Monday and Tuesday at the pub.
Next Week and Beyond
One of the benefits to you of Tyson and I driving all over the state of California visiting breweries is that we brought back lots of beer to share on tap. And when we visited our friend Chuck Silva in Paso Robles at Silva Brewing he asked what we wanted and we simply said one of everything – maybe 2 kegs of the IPA. And thankfully Chuck acquiesced to our outlandish request. So we have 9 different Silva Brewing beers tap on Wednesday the 27th (which just happens to be 50 cent wing night). Here is the line up of what we will have: 1st Gold (German Blonde), Suite B (Alt Beer), Paso Pale, Nut Farm (Walnut Milk Stout), Mind On My Orange (Saison), 525 Pine IPA, MJ’s Spicy Ginger, PoHo Red IPA and Ouroboros Imperial Stout. This is going to be a great night of beers (and wings).
Thursday the 28th we will have a Belching Beaver Night with a cask of Secret IPA. We will also have the new Smoldering Pirate Sour Ale along with Phantom Bride IPA, Fest Bender and a collaboration Triple IPA named Texafornia.
We have a few more collaborations in the works right now. Tyson and I are going to Karl Strauss’ Old Columbia location on Thursday to brew up Triple Mosaic IPA. This is a follow up to our very tasty Double Mosaic IPA collaboration from this Spring. Look for pictures and updates on the Facebook page throughout the day including a video with Peter Rowe in the afternoon.
And we have a barrel aged blended ale with brettanomyces that we are doing with Cellar 3 for San Diego Beer Week. And since the timing worked out, we decided to add Star B wet hops in the conditioning tank for a few weeks before kegging the beer up. So far it is tasting amazing and you know that we will be doing the hard quality control work that you expect to make sure that this beer is as good as it can be. And since this is a beer with brett and wet hops, what else could we call it but WETtanomyces?
Looking ahead into next month, our 15th Wet Hop Festival will be October 13th, 14th and 15th. This will feature beers mostly brewed with Yakima grown wet hops along with some late harvest San Diego wet hopped beers that did not make our SD Wet Hop Weekend. We expect to pour more than 30 beers over the 3 days and we will likely have a cask to kick things off on the 12th.
That is your good beer news for now. This email was assisted by Fieldwork’s excellent Finer Things Mosaic Lager and Black Sabbath tonight. Have a good one and we’ll see you soon for an awesome Bell’s Brewing beer. Cheers, Tom
