Hello Beer Fans!
I have an updated list of our epic San Diego Beer Week events with more detailed beer lists. Our Melvin Beer Dinner this Sunday is nearly sold out but we have a decent number of spots left for our 9 Year Firestone Anniversary Ale Vertical Tasting and the Lost Abbey Beer Dinner with Tomme Arthur is more than half sold. And if you don’t make it by during Beer Week, the week afterwards is always a great time to enjoy the pub as there is always amazing beer left over from our tap takeovers.
But before all of that gets going we are going to offer up some treats for tonight including Alpine Nelson IPA, Alpine Tuatara and Green Flash 15th Anniversary Ale. All of these will be on tap by 5 pm this evening. And they will be around for lunch on Friday alongside Alpine San Diego Surprise (plus lots and lots of Tortas).
Here is the big, bad ass list of events to make you thirsty and hungry….
San Diego Beer Week at the Pub
Friday 11/3 – Back Country Beer Night with Alpine, Cellar 3 and Nickel Beer
We kick off SDBW 2017 with a night of incredible beers brewed in the Back Country of San Diego County. We will have 6 Alpine beers from the original brewery in Alpine including Bad Boy, Keene Idea, Pure Hoppiness, San Diego Surprise, Tuatara and Nelson IPA.
There will be barrel aged treats from Cellar 3 including the debut of our new wet hopped collaboration barrel blend WETtanomyces (which is tasting incredible). It is a blend of 3 different beers with brettanomyces and then conditioned with wet hops from Star B Hop Ranch. We’ll also have Natura Morta with Peach – Barrel Aged Saison with Peach, Vivid Sauage – aka Super Freak (barrel aged brett Le Freak), Divine Sauvage – Trippel in red wine barrels with brett.
There will of course be some Green Flash goodness on tap including pub favorite West Coast IPA plus the new 15th Anniversary Ale and Golden God (part of the Jameson cask mates project).
And Nickel Beer will be sending down some beers from Julian including a fresh batch of Hopster Douchebag Double IPA, a well aged keg of Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged Constantine’s Russian Imperial Stout and the wet hopped Devil’s Kashmir Rye Red Ale. Look for everything on tap by 5 pm.
The kitchen will be serving up Pulled Pork from West Coast on top of Nachos, Tater Tots, Tacos, Sandwiches and more.
Saturday and Sunday 11/4 and 11/5 – Pucker Up Butter Cup Sour Weekend
Our annual sour beer weekend is always a cornucopia of puckering goodness. There will be draft and bottled sour beers including some vintage beers. We’ll get a full list together as we get closer but certainly you can expect sour beers from Russian River, Cascade, De Garde, Crooked Stave, Firestone Barrelworks, Rodenbach (Alexander) and many more!
On Saturday Humberto will be making Flemish Stew to pair with our super sour selection. We’ll also have some Chimay Cheese inspired specials and a Seared Duck Breast Salad.
For Sunday we are going to open up for Brunch at 10:30 am and the kitchen is going to be doing you up right with Birthday Bacon Breakfast Bowls, Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich and the soon to be famous Fried Chicken Waffle Sandwich with Blueberry Scorpion Pepper Sauce. Look for 15 sour beers on tap for Sunday.
Sunday 11/5 – Melvin Brewing Beer Dinner
Melvin Brewing is making some extraordinarily tasty beers and we are stoked to be hosting them for a Sunday Night Beer Dinner. Of course there will be Birthday Bacon, so you don’t have to worry about that. Look for Lamb Belly and Bison Chili among the tasty dishes. There are only a few seats left for this dinner so if you would like to go, I would sign up ASAP. Dinner will start at 6:30 pm. Cost is $75 and you can sign up at the pub (cash only please).
Monday 11/6 – Melvin Brewing Night with 91X
As is tradition, the incredible line up of beers from our Sunday Night Beer Dinner rolls into a Monday Tap Takeover. We’ll have around 10 delicious Melvin beers on tap for Monday Night.
We are still waiting on the final details on the beer list but you can expect to see 2×4 DIPA, Tangelo (Tangerine/Grapefruit Pale Ale), Hey Zeus Mexican Lager, Killer Bees, Ruckus Imperial Stout, Brosaic IPA, D’Arktanganon Dark Wheat, Pilsgnar, Hubert MPA Pale Ale (GABF Gold 2017) and Citradamus.
Our friends at 91X are planning to do a live broadcast from 3-7 pm on the patio so Tyson and Tom should both be on the air at various points in the afternoon.
Monday means Beer Battered Fish in your face – Tacos, Fish and Chips and the Chipotle Fish Torta.
Tuesday 11/7 – Kern River Floods O’Brien’s
Our good friends at Kern River Brewing will be joining us again for Beer Week. We have a great line up of hoppy beers including JO IPA, Shuttle Bunny DIPA, Pro Tuber IPA (collab with Pizza Port), Citracito, River Buddy, Dirty Hippie and the awesomely named Evel Kern Evel DIPA. And yes there will be dark beer too – Fishin’ in the Dark Imperial Coffee Porter and Rum Barrel Aged Igor Unchained Imperial Stout (just because the Kern folks love us).
And just so happens that for the second year in a row the Kern folks decided to stop by the pub on Taco Night, coincidence? I don’t think so. We will have a selection of great tacos including Duroc Pork Cheek and Birthday Bacon.
Wednesday 11/8 – Fieldwork Assignment
Fieldwork’s brewmaster Alex Tweet will be coming down to share his fine wares with us. We are expecting to have these 11 beers on tap: Eastside Motel, Double IPA, Galaxy Juice IPA, One Star Review Double IPA, Churro Cream Ale, Pulp IPA, Island Time Tropical Sour Ale, Lilith Belgian Golden Ale, Streams of Coffee English Mild Ale, Hazy Glue Pale Ale, Stereotypical IPA and Sonoma Pride IPA (North Bay Fire Relief Brew – only keg leaving the Bay Area)

Thursday 11/9 – Founders Brewing Night
Kentucky Breakfast Stout anyone? Yes please. And we’ll have DKML – a 14% Bourbon Barrel Aged Malt Liquor, Mosaic Promise and Doom – a 12% Bourbon Barrel Aged Double IPA. Thursday is our weekly Mac n’ Cheese night. Look for Birthday Bacon, BBC Chicken and a Truffle flavor for this night.
Friday 11/10 – Tyson’s Big Ass Barrel Aged Beer Night
Does this really need an explanation? After being rescheduled due to the USA – Mexico game last year this event is back on a Friday night for your imbibing pleasure. Every year this list impresses with beers aged in as many different types of barrels as Tyson can track down. Look for beers aged in Red Wine, White Wine, Port Wine, Bourbon, Rye Whiskey and Rum Barrels for sure across a wide variety of styles.
Look for these incredible beers on tap: Lost Abbey O’Brien’s 20th Anniversary Ale, 2013 Lost Abbey Deliverance, Vintage Russian River Sours, Ironfire All. Oak. Everything., 2015 Bagby/Nickel Lion’s Pride, AleSmith Double Barrel Speedway Stout and many, many more.
Apparently the kitchen must love Tyson and his Big Ass Barrel night because they are rolling out Smoked Prime Rib dinner for this one alongside the Lobster BLT in addition to it being Torta Day.
Saturday 11/11 – Warrior Foundation Bottle Share with Firestone Anniversary Ale 9 Year Vertical Tasting
In honor of Veterans Day we open up the pub for a giant bottle share to help raise money for the Warrior Foundation here in San Diego. We’ll pop lots of bottles to share and you can bring in your own bottles to share with friends. We’ll charge a $5 cappage fee for each bottle and donate 100% of that money to the Warrior Foundation.
We are also doing an insane NINE year vertical of the Firestone Anniversary Ale. You will get 9 two ounce pours for just $25 (cash only please). We will be doing the flights between 2 and 5 pm on Saturday the 11th. You must sign up and pay in advance to reserve your spot – which are limited. If you miss out on the 9 year vertical, starting at 4 pm we will be begin pouring 6 year vertical flights from our draft kegs of Anniversary Ale while supplies last.
Look for Seared Ahi sandwich and salad specials all day long from the kitchen crew.
Sunday 11/12 – Lost Abbey Beer Dinner with Tomme Arthur
Since the very first Beer Week we have ended with a Lost Abbey Beer Dinner. I can confirm that Tomme Arthur will be there to share stories of his amazing beers. We are finalizing the beer list right now, but it looks like Veritas 19 and 20 will be part of the dinner alongside our 20th Anniversary Barrel Blend. We will have several new beers at the dinner including 4 Sonoma IPA, Ghosts in the Forest, Dead Man’s Game and Gnoel de Abbey. Cost for this dinner is $100 and you can sign up at the pub (cash only please). We’ll post full beer list and menu details as soon as they are ready. This dinner is more than half sold already.
That is your Beer Week News for now. We’ll see you soon at one of our wonderful events. I for one am planning on being at the pub every evening. Have a fun Beer Week and please be safe. Cheers, Tom
